Pacific Hygiene is proud to lead the way in sustainable hygiene solutions — and their new Circular Nitrile Glove Recycling Programme, available through Shardlows Packaging, is another exciting step forward.
Every day, thousands of disposable gloves are used across New Zealand in workplaces like healthcare, food service, and manufacturing. Traditionally, these gloves have ended up in landfill — but now, there’s a better way.
How It Works
Customers simply dispose of their used nitrile gloves in designated recycling bins, available through Shardlows Packaging. These bins are placed in accessible areas throughout the site, making it easy for teams to participate.
Once full, Interwaste collects the bins on a scheduled service, ensuring a smooth and reliable process. Each collection is weighed, and volume data is recorded — allowing businesses to track exactly how much waste they’ve helped divert from landfill.
From Waste to Worth
After collection, the gloves are transported to a specialist reuse facility, where they’re processed and repurposed into aggregate material. This material is then used to manufacture a range of concrete products, including bricks, pavers, and slabs — giving what was once waste a new, lasting purpose.
Why It Matters
This programme is about more than recycling — it’s about reimagining waste and supporting a circular economy. By turning used gloves into new materials, we’re reducing environmental impact, cutting down on landfill waste, and helping businesses operate more sustainably.
At Shardlows Packaging, we believe that small changes lead to big results. Together with Pacific Hygiene and Interwaste, we’re making it easier for businesses to take part in a cleaner, greener future.
