From October 1st 2022, the following items have been banned;
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pre-formed, rigid food trays and containers
- Polystyrene (PS) takeaway food and beverage packaging
- Expanded polystyrene (EPS) food and beverage packaging
- Oxo and photo-degradable plastic products
- Plastic drink stirrers
- Plastic stemmed cotton buds
(Bans extend to all types of plastic including compostable and bio-based plastics)
From mid-2023, the following items will be banned;
- Plastic Produce bags
- Plastic plates, bowls, cutlery
- Plastic straws
- Plastic produce labels
At Shardlows Packaging we stock a very wide range of alternative cardboard and paper packaging to replace the banned products.
The following alternatives can be used;
- Plastic produce bags – use block bottom paper bags or reusable cotton produce bags
- Plastic plates, bowls – use bamboo or cornstarch packaging
- Plastic cutlery – use wooden cutlery
- Plastic straws – use paper straws
- Plastic containers and trays – use cardboard takeaway trays and boxes
